Sheehan Reaches Class M Baseball Final

The Titans took care of business against top-seeded East Catholic in the semifinals and will play for their fourth state title on Friday.

The Sheehan baseball team has stormed through the CIAC Class M baseball tournament and is one win away from capturing its fourth state championship.

The fourth-seeded Titans (20-4) will take on No. 2 Montville (22-2) in the title game Friday night at 7:05 p.m. at Palmer Field in Middletown.

Sheehan, which last one the title in 2010, advanced with a 3-1 semifinal victory over top-seeded East Catholic Tuesday night at Dodd Stadium in Norwich.

So far in the tournament, Sheehan has outscored its opponents 24-3 with wins over No. 29 Goodwin Tech, 11-2, No. 20 Ellington, 5-0, and No. 12 Ledyard, 5-0, prior to Tuesday’s win over East Catholic.

Sheehan has been led by dominant pitching from Zach Hart, Turner French, Tyler Daly and Brendan Rentas.

East Catholic entered the semifinals averaging 9.5 runs per game but was shut down by a combined effort from Hart and Daly.

“We came in as a confident team and they came in as a confident team,” Sheehan senior catcher Paul Gozzo told Henry Chisholm of GameTimeCT / New Haven Register. “We played our hearts out. Every guy gave it their all out there.”
