Sheehan’s Run Ends In CIAC Division II Girls Basketball Tournament: PHOTOS

Sheehan's season came to an end with a second-round loss, which also represented the final game for longtime coach Mike Busillo.

WALLINGFORD, CT — The Sheehan girls basketball team’s season came to an end with a 39-31 loss to eighth-seeded Notre Dame Prep in the second round of the CIAC Division II tournament Tuesday night at Notre Dame-Fairfield.

The ninth-seeded Titans had advanced to the second round with a 40-30 first-round victory over No. 24 Foran on Saturday in Wallingford.

Sheehan was the reigning Class MM champion after bringing home the program’s first state title in nearly 50 years with a 56-51 win over East Catholic in last year’s tournament.

Tuesday’s second-round loss was also the final game for longtime Sheehan coach Mike Busillo, who had announced his retirement before the season.

“Today I coached my last game as girls basketball coach at Sheehan,” Busillo wrote in a post on X after the loss. “It’s been one hell of a ride! Thanks to all my players ❤️💛 I’m incredibly thankful for the friends I’ve made over the last 20 years at Sheehan (30 overall), coaches, media, AD’s, parents and even officials.”
