WALLINGFORD, CT — Shots were fired at a resident who chased down a suspect who tried to steal his vehicle during the overnight hours Thursday in Wallingford, according to police. At around 4 a.m., a resident on Forest Road confronted a man who was trying to steal his vehicle from the driveway, according to Lt. Michael Colavolpe.
Colavolpe said the resident chased the man as he got into the passenger side of an awaiting vehicle, which was believed to be a white sedan. The sedan then sped off and the resident got into his vehicle and chased the suspects.
“The resident caught up to suspects on Plymouth Court, which is located off of Parkview Road,” Colavolpe wrote in a news release. “Plymouth Court is a short U-shaped roadway and the resident was able to block the suspect’s vehicle. While both the suspects and resident were stopped, two gunshots were fired from the suspect’s vehicle.”

The resident wasn’t injured and the bullets didn’t strike his vehicle, according to Colavolpe. Police responded to the area and found two shell casings on Plymouth Court. Police also found that the suspects entered numerous unlocked vehicles in the area and stole a vehicle, which had the keys in it, from a driveway on Elmwood Drive, according to Colavolpe. This vehicle was recovered on Forest Road.

“Residents are reminded to take their keys out of their vehicles and to lock their vehicle doors at all times, not just during the overnight hours,” Colavolpe said.
