Stolen Gun, Drugs Found During Traffic Stop In Wallingford: Police

A driver was arrested after being found in the possession of a stolen gun and drugs during a traffic stop in Wallingford, police said.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A man was found to be in the possession of a stolen gun and drugs during a traffic stop early Friday morning in Wallingford, according to police.

Police conducted a routine traffic stop around 1:40 a.m. in the area of North Colony Road and Yale Avenue, according to Officer Alex Torres.

Torres said a black Buick SUV bearing expired Connecticut plates was traveling northbound with no headlights on.

The driver initially “failed to identify himself and claimed he left his license home,” according to Torres.

Further investigation found that the driver, who was identified as Deyshon Eric Pina, had an active arrest warrant out of Bridgeport, according to Torres.

Pina was found to be in the possession of 18 green capsules containing cocaine and two black zip-lock-style bags containing 4 grams of marijuana, according to Torres.

Torres said a search of the vehicle was conducted and a stolen black 9mm pistol was found along with a seven-round magazine, three-9mm (hollow point) rounds, one shell casing, 38 (solid point) rounds, and a black backpack containing merchandise.

Pina, 30, was arrested on charges of illegal possession of weapon in a motor vehicle, violation of pistol permit requirement, stealing a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm/ammunition/defense weapon, criminal possession of a pistol, interfering with an officer, possession with intent to sell narcotics, possession of controlled substance, failure to renew registration, operating a motor vehicle without a license, and failure to have headlamps illuminated. He was held in lieu of a $25,000 bond, and was charged for the warrant out of Bridgeport and held in lieu of a $1,000 bond.

Pina appeared in court on Friday, according to Torres.
