Swimming Area Closed At Wharton Brook State Park In Wallingford
Officials announced the closure of the swimming area at Wharton Brook State Park in Wallingford on Tuesday.
WALLINGFORD, CT — The swimming area at Wharton Brook State Park in Wallingford was closed Tuesday because of elevated bacteria levels, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
The DEEP also said Day Pond State Park in Colchester and Wadsworth Falls State Park in Middlefield were also closed.
Water samples are collected weekly from the swimming areas at state parks and beaches by DEEP staff and analyzed at the Department of Public Health Lab for the “presence of certain indicator bacteria.”

The DEEP noted that indicator bacteria are “not disease-causing pathogen but are one of the tools used by public health and environmental protection authorities to evaluate the potential for contamination of waterbodies.”
The state parks remain open, as only the swimming areas were closed.
