These Are CT’s Most-Desired Secondary Schools
Three of the 25 most-desired secondary schools in the country are in Connecticut.
Three of the most popular secondary schools are in Connecticut, according to a ranking from Test Innovators. The rankings are based on the number of students who stated their intention to apply to the school in 2018.
All three of the schools based in Connecticut offer large beautiful campuses, great teacher to student ratios and top-notch academics and a history of notable alumni.
Coming in fifth is Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford. The campus covers more than 450 acres and the school has a 23 percent acceptance rate. Notable alumni include President John F. Kennedy, Jamie Lee Curtis, Paul Giamatti, Bill Simmons, Michael Douglas and Ivanka Trump.

Choate has an average class size of 12 and a 4:1 student to faculty adviser ratio. It features eight signature programs including the JFK Program In Government and Public Service. Students come from 38 different states and 42 countries. The school had seven National Merit Finalists in 2018.
The Hotchkiss School in Salisbury came in 14th. The school only educated boys until 1974 when girls were allowed to enroll. It has a 21 percent acceptance rate, according to Test Innovators. The average class size is 12 students.

Hotchkiss has 600 students that hail from 32 states and 35 countries. The school has an 827-acre campus, 13 dormitories, 2 ice hockey rinks, a 10-lane swimming pool and a 9-hole golf course. Some of the top colleges students go on to enroll in are New York University, Georgetown University, Cornell University and Yale University.
The Taft School in Watertown comes in 22nd on Test Innovator’s list. There are more than 600 students enrolled that come from 33 different states and 44 different countries. Taft was founded in 1890 as Mr. Taft’s School. Classes average 11 students and there is a 1:5 teacher to student ratio, according to the school’s website.
Taft offers 200 different academic courses and the average combined SAT score was 1,370 for the Class of 2018.
Of the top 25 schools 15 are located in the Northeast. Phillips Academy Andover in Andover, Mass. earned the top spot on the list. It was founded during the Revolutionary War and has boarding and day options for students.
