Victim Identified In Fatal Wallingford Fire: UPDATE

The fire broke out Friday at a senior apartment complex.

WALLINGFORD, CT — The victim in the fatal fire at a senior apartment complex in Wallingford has been identified as 57-year-old Carol Augustine, according to Lt. Cheryl Bradley.

Wallingford Police and Fire Departments responded to the Silver Pond Apartment Complex, located at 656 Center Street, at about 4:05 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24.

Bradley said the fire was determined to be in Building A of the complex and all of the residents were evacuated with one person transported to the hospital. That person, later identified Augustine, was subsequently pronounced dead at the hospital, according to Bradley.

The Wallingford Fire Marshal’s Office in conjunction with the State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the cause of the fire.

Bradley said an autopsy was conducted Saturday and the cause and manner of death are pending.

“As a result of the fire, 47 residents were displaced from 21 units total,” Bradley said. “The American Red Cross and the Carabetta Company have assisted those residents that were displaced.”
