Villa Capri in Wallingford to Close This Summer

After 56 years of hosting weddings and events, the Mesite Family announces its decision to close the banquet facility.

After 56 years in business, Villa Capri in Wallingford will be closing its doors this summer.

The Mesite Family, owners of the Villa Capri Wedding & Banquet facility on North Colony Road, which has hosted numerous weddings and events for decades, announced it will close the facility on July 31.

Villa Capri was founded in 1960 by George and Rosalie Mesite.

The family is in negotiations to sell the property to Cumberland Farms, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.

The Record-Journal reports Cumberland Farms is proposing to demolish the banquet facility and it received a variance from the Zoning Board of Appeals Tuesday night that would allow it to maintain two access points to the Villa Capri property.

The Mesite Family also operated the iconic Yankee Silversmith Inn, which was torn down in 2008 after the family elected not to rebuild and reopen it following a June 2007 fire, according to the New Haven Register.

The Register reports George Mesite bought the Yankee Silversmith in a bankruptcy court proceeding in 1991. He died in 2007.

Villa Capri’s partners, Mark Mesite, Ralph Mesite, Gina Mesite Mueller, and Robert Mesite, issued the following statement regarding the decision to close:

It was a difficult decision for the family to close the Villa Capri, but we have decided to move on to the next chapter in our lives while keeping many fond, wonderful memories.

We have had many offers in the past but at this time in our lives, our family has decided to entertain an offer so that we can continue to concentrate on running all of our Sonic of CT franchise stores, while building our brand, and our current business investments along with new ventures to come.

Moving forward, we remain committed to providing the same excellence in service we strive for to all of our currently booked events and any new events we book now until we close on July 31, 2016. We have been happy to be a part of the Wallingford community for so many wonderful years and are thankful for all the support the town and community has given us.

We would like to thank all our loyal customers, our family and friends, our vendors we have worked and networked with through all the years and a SPECIAL THANK YOU going out to all our hardworking staff that have been with us through the years, some of which who have been with us for close to 30 years!
