Wallingford Athletes Overcome Tragedy, Play in Honor of Late Parents: VIDEO
Albertus Magnus women's basketball players Liz Falcigno and Olivia Sutherland share a special bond on and off the court.
WALLINGFORD, CT — Wallingford residents Liz Falcigno and Olivia Sutherland, members of the Albertus Magnus women’s basketball team, share a special bond on and off the court.
Both have suffered the tragic loss of a parent during their playing careers and have persevered and continue to shine in honor of their parents.
Falcigno’s mother, Constance "Connie" Falcigno, passed away this past January after a battle with cancer. She was 65.
Sutherland’s father, George Sutherland, passed away in 2014 after suffering a major heart attack while they were playing a pickup game of basketball. He was 59.
Falcigno, a junior, and Sutherland, a senior, helped lead the Falcons to a 14-12 record this past season and were the subject of a documentary-style video produced by Albertus Magnus communications majors Alexis Mack and Elizabeth Nagy.
During the months of February, March and April, Mack sat down with Falcigno and Sutherland to talk about their losses and why they are "Playing for Parents."
