Wallingford Board of Education Votes Against Outsourcing Food Services

With talks of outsourcing voted down, cafeterias will have to figure out how to run services without losing money.

The Board of Education reached a unanimous vote Wednesday against outsourcing district food services to a private company for the 2016-17 school year, according to the New Haven Register.

District food service workers will now have to prove, however, that they can run cafeterias at Wallingford’s school without losing money. The main incentive was reportedly mostly based on the aggressive time crunch between now and the start of the school year to get an outside vendor ready and settled, as reported by the New Haven Register.

School administration officials have been urged to work closely with food service employees to figure out ways to run the services effectively, according to the New Haven Register. As a ripple effect of the decision, planned positions like a health & wellness coordinator and a social worker will be scrapped until further notice.
