Wallingford Businesses Cited In Tobacco Compliance Checks

WALLINGFORD, CT — Six Wallingford businesses were cited for illegally selling tobacco products to anyone under the age of 21 during compliance checks on Tuesday, according to police.

The Wallingford Police Department’s Community Impact Unit, along with the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program, conducted compliance inspections of establishments that sell tobacco products and electronic cigarettes.

“The Inspections were performed in an effort to determine compliance with state laws concerning the prohibition of the sale of e-cigarettes and tobacco products to youth under the age of 21,” police wrote in a news release. “Retailers are required by state law to inspect the photo ID of anyone who appears under the age of 30 before selling tobacco product or electronic cigarette.”

Six businesses out of 25 compliance inspections were found to be non-compliant, according to police. The offending clerks were issued a first-time $300 infraction, police said.

The following retailers were found to be non-compliant:

• Tobacco World, 994 North Colony Road
• Smok Rules, 200 Church Street Unit 5
• Smokers Land, 362 Main Street
• Global, 119 North Turnpike Road
• Colony Vape Shop (Hookah Shop), 130 South Colony Road
• Valero Oakdale mart, 75 South Turnpike Road

The following businesses were in compliance during the checks:

• Checkers, 99 North Colony Road
• Valero Fast Mart, 720 North Colony Road
• Mobil/ Sam’s Food Stores, 1001 North Colony Road
• Citgo, 305 Main Street
• Shell/ Henny Penny, 77 North Turnpike Road
• Valero Fast Mart, 68 North Turnpike Road
• Wallingford Food Land (Delta), 250 South Colony Road
• Pit Stop, 66 Woodhouse Avenue
• Smokers Market, 824 East Center Street
• Wallingford Tobacco, 898 North Colony
• Shell Food Mart, 1059 North Colony Road
• Puff City, 722 North Colony Road
• Sunoco Food Mart, 315 North Colony Road
• Teddy’s Stores (Gulf), 1195 North Colony Road
• Railroad Smoke Shop, 96 Quinnipiac Street
• Sunoco Food & Fuel, 810 South Colony Road
• Citgo Food Mart, 326 South Colony Road
• Valero Fasmart, 720 North Colony Road
• Nisa’s Variety Store, 824 East Center Street
