Wallingford Businesses Cited In Tobacco Compliance Checks

WALLINGFORD, CT — Four Wallingford businesses were cited for illegally selling tobacco products to anyone under the age of 21 during compliance checks last week, according to police.

The Wallingford Police Department’s Community Impact Unit, along with the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program, conducted unannounced compliance inspections on Friday, Nov. 22 of businesses that sell tobacco products and/or electronic cigarettes.

“The inspections were performed in an effort to determine compliance with state laws concerning the prohibition of the sale of e-cigarettes and/or tobacco products to youth under the age of 21,” police wrote in a news release. “Retailers are required by state law to inspect the photo ID of anyone who appears under the age of 30 before selling tobacco products or electronic cigarettes.”

Four businesses out of 12 unannounced compliance inspections were found non-compliant, according to police. The offending clerks were issued a first-time infraction for $300, police said.

The Connecticut Department of Revenue Services licenses tobacco retailers. Non-compliant/compliant inspection results are referred to DRS for possible administrative action, according to police.

Silver City Vapors, 10 Willard Avenue

Puff City, 722 North Colony Road

Tobacco World, 944 North Colony Road

The following retailers were found to be compliant:

Delta Food Land, 250 South Colony Road

Alien Vape & Smoke, 970 North Colony Road

Smok Rules, 200 Church Street

Teddy’s Stores, 440 Main Street

Smoker’s Land, 362 Main Street

Global Gas Station, 119 North Turnpike Road

Valero/1 Stop Wings, 68 North Turnpike Road

Mobil Gas Station, 2 River Road
