Wallingford Coronavirus Update: 18 Confirmed Cases

WALLINGFORD, CT —As the number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in Connecticut climbed near 4,000 Thursday, the total in Wallingford increased to 18. Statewide, the number of deaths related to the virus reached 112, with 827 hospitalizations. About 18,300 people have been tested for the virus, according to state health officials.

Fairfield County continues to compile the highest number of confirmed cases with 2,132, or 55.8 percent of the state's total. New Haven County has confirmed 647 cases with 17 deaths, including a Wallingford resident.

Audrey Carretta, 86, a retired elementary school teacher was the town's first confirmed death from COVID-19. She was a teacher at E.C. Stevens Elementary School.

Wallingford had its first two confirmed COVID-19 cases on March 25. Wallingford Mayor William Dickinson announced Monday afternoon that the town was closing all municipal buildings to the public effectively immediately in response to the new coronavirus pandemic.
