Now we'd like to ask a few questions about your reasons for running and your general views on politics and government. First, why are you seeking this office?
With the election of a new mayor, we are not only given the opportunity to reflect on what makes our town so special, but we are also given the chance to implement changes that will position Wallingford for success in the future. After over two decades of working, living, and volunteering here in town, I feel that I can make a positive contribution towards the future of our community during this exciting time.
Please complete this statement: The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is \_\_\_, and this is what I intend to do about it.
Keeping taxes low while making the necessary repairs and improvements to our town's infrastructure and investing in better technology at town hall. We will need to formulate a long term plan, addressing immediate priorities first.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
My experience of working with local non-profit organizations sets me apart. As a pharmacist at Masonicare, I spent nearly 20 years providing care to some of Wallingford's most vulnerable residents. As a board member of the Spanish Community of Wallingford (SCOW) since 2011, I have not only had the opportunity to implement several good governance practices for our organization, but have also had the chance to meet and work with many civic groups and community members.
Pairing my non-profit work with my service as a member of the Board of Health and the Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Commission gives me insight into how local government operates and the diverse community that we serve.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
We need to implement new and better technology within town hall to improve taxpayers' access to town services and to equip our municipal employees with the tools necessary to do their jobs more efficiently and effectively in the modern world.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
Joining the board of directors of SCOW in 2011, I have served as board chair since 2015. I have helped lead the agency as it has become a premier, well-respected organization within our town and state. At SCOW, I have participated in organizational management and oversight, program evaluation, grant writing, strategic planning, and budget preparation.
As a hospital pharmacist for over 2 decades, I have successfully worked within the health team to provide care to patients.
As a member of the board of health, I have organized and participated in several public health initiatives, educational in-services, and emergency management drills within our town.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
Actively listen before speaking.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I have always looked for ways to serve. By running for town council, I am hoping to give back in a bigger way to my community than I already have.
