Wallingford Fire Station Faces Closure
The town could close a volunteer fire station due to a drop in volunteers.

Due to a decline in the number of volunteer firefighters, Wallingford may be forced to close the Yalesville Volunteer station.
Fire Chief Richard Heidgerd, who got his start at the Yalesville station, told WTNH News 8 that over the last 10 years, the town has seen a drop in volunteers from 120 to 54.
If the Yalesville station closes, its members will move to the future North Farms Road station, which is being built at 884 North Farms Road, as part of a consolidation, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.

Heidgerd told the Record-Journal that consolidating from three volunteer fire stations to two would not have an impact on services.
Heidgerd plans on holding an open house in an effort to attract more volunteers and the decision on whether or not to close the Yalesville station will be made by the end of the month, according to WTNH.
