Wallingford Flag Removal Causes Firestorm
Residents complained on social media after some flags were replaced with holiday wreaths leading up to Veterans Day.

The removal of flags around Wallace Park along Quinnipiac Street in favor of holiday wreaths caused a firestorm on social media leading up to Veterans Day but town officials say it was done because of scheduling and the public works department’s workload, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.
The Record-Journal reports Mayor William W. Dickinson Jr. and Public Works Director Henry McCully were adamant that it was not done to disrespect veterans and that flags are still on display in the center of town.
McCully, who is a veteran, told the Record-Journal it was a “simple misunderstanding” and he would never do “anything to undermine the veterans.”
