Wallingford Man Badly Burned in Fire Pit Explosion

The man reportedly used gasoline to try and help get the fire started.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A Wallingford man suffered burns to about 40 percent of his body after a fire pit explosion, which was caused when he used gasoline to help get the fire started, according to multiple reports.

WTNH News 8 reports the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon on South Whittlesey Avenue and the man was able to make it to the yard next door where a neighbor helped him put the fire out with a garden hose.

The man was seriously injured and fire officials told WTNH that he will probably have weeks or months worth of treatment due to the burns.

The Meriden Record-Journal reports the man was conscious and alert when emergency crews responded to the scene.

The man was transported to MidState Medical Center and then airlifted to the Bridgeport Hospital burn unit for further treatment, according to the Record-Journal.
