Wallingford Man Charged with Attempted Knifepoint Robbery of Gas Station

The clerk refused the man's demands during the attempted robbery and the suspect has been arrested on a warrant following an investigation.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A 44-year-old Wallingford man was arrested for allegedly attempting to rob a gas station at knifepoint last month.

Christopher Marmol, of 84 Center Street, was arrested on a warrant for the March 19 incident in which he is accused of entering the Food Land gas station/convenience store, located at 250 South Colony Road, around 5:23 p.m. and brandished a knife and demanded money from the store clerk.

The clerk refused his demands and Marmol left the store without anything, according to Lt. Michael Colavolpe.

Colavolpe said moments after the attempted robbery, a report of a disturbance behind 80 Center Street in Wallingford was reported.

In this incident, a man approached two females and implied he had a weapon by putting his hand in his waistband and told the females to get into their car, according to Colavolpe.

The women walked away from the man into a nearby building and called police. The description of the man matched the description of the robbery suspect.

During subsequent investigation, Marmol was developed as a person of interest in both cases. Through investigative leads, surveillance video, and witness accounts, police identified Marmol as the person responsible for the attempted robbery and the incident behind 80 Center Street and an arrest warrant was obtained, according to Colavolpe.

Marmol was taken into custody at his residence at about 5 p.m. on April 20 without incident.

Marmol was charged with first-degree criminal attempt to commit robbery and breach of peace.

Colavolpe said Marmol has two prior convictions for robbery which occurred in 2012 and 2015.

Marmol was held on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on April 21.
