Wallingford Native Selected in MLB Draft
Lyman Hall grad P.J. Higgins was drafted by the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday.

Wallingford’s P.J. Higgins, a Lyman Hall graduate, was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 12th round (353 overall) of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Wednesday.
Higgins, a junior third baseman for Old Dominion University, led the Monarchs in hitting this season and ranked eighth in Conference-USA with a .335 batting average.
The second Team All-C-USA selection played third, but also played second and caught for the Monarchs this year. He hit two home runs in a game at UTSA and was named C-USA Player of the Week on April 12.

Higgins had five RBIs against Penn and had 25 multiple-hit games, a 16-game hitting streak and at one stretch during the season reached base 25 straight games. Higgins struck out only 16 times and scored 40 times with 80 total hits which ranked second in C-USA.
In his three-year career at Old Dominion, Higgins hit .324 with four home runs, 82 RBIs, 102 runs scored in 158 games played. He also had a slugging percentage of .412 and an on-base percentage of .381.
