Wallingford Police Warn Of Phone Scam
Police are warning residents of a phone scam that was reported in Wallingford.
WALLINGFORD, CT — Police are warning residents of a phone scam in which the caller poses as a Wallingford police officer.
A resident received a call on Monday from someone claiming to be “Wallingford Police Deputy Chief Evans,” according to police.
“We determined that this phone call was a scam,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “The fake officer said the citizen failed to go to jury duty and there were two warrants for their arrest for $1,500 per warrant. The citizen said they could not pay the amount and the fake officer said he would call the judge and try to get the bond dropped to $500. The fake officer told the citizen to go to CVS and send the money via a QR Code. The citizen found the interaction to be suspicious and reported it to us at Wallingford Police Headquarters.
