Wallingford Woman Accused Of Stealing Union Funds

The woman was arrested in connection with the theft of more than $23,000 from a steelworkers' union, according to officials.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A Wallingford woman who worked as the financial secretary of the United Steelworkers Union, Local 4-753, was recently arrested in connection with the theft of $23,452 of union funds, according to officials.

Adriana Garcia, 38, was arrested July 16 and charged with third-degree larceny. She was taken into custody by inspectors from the Statewide Prosecution Bureau of the Chief State’s Attorney Office.

Garcia is accused of conducting 31 unauthorized cash withdrawals from the union’s bank account between December 2017 and June 2019 and using the money to pay for personal expenses, according to a news release.

Garcia had repaid all but $7,596 before the theft was uncovered, according to officials. She was released after posting an $8,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 2.
