Woman Fraudulently Obtained A $250K Home Equity Loan On Victims’ Property: Wallingford PD

WALLINGFORD, CT — A Maryland woman is accused of fraudulently taking out a home equity loan that resulted in a lien being placed on the victims’ home, according to police.

Police said Wallingford residents discovered last fall that a lien had been placed on their home due to a fraudulent home equity loan taken out in their names for nearly $250,000.

“A lengthy investigation resulted in the identification of Katija Hussain, who, by using fraudulent CT driver’s licenses, posed as the victim(s) in order to apply for and obtain a home equity loan on a Wallingford property owned by the victim(s),” police wrote in a news release.

Hussain, 27, was extradited from the DC-Metro Jail in Washington, D.C., back to Connecticut to face charges, according to police.

Hussain was charged with two counts of first-degree identity theft, two counts of conspiracy to commit first-degree identity theft, and one count of criminal attempt to commit first-degree larceny. She was being held in lieu of a $750,000 bond with a court date of Aug. 21, according to state judicial records.
