• Connecticut's newest CIAC school begins varsity journey on the soccer field (nhregister.com) — A new Waterbury-based school, ACES at Chase, has just played its first-ever varsity boys soccer match, launching the city's newest CIAC athletic program. With no seniors and many first-time players, coaches stress learning and building a foundation as the school grows to include 12th grade and adds more varsity competitions in volleyball and cross country this month.
• Defamation suit by GOP candidate Jonathan De Barros dismissed (newsfromthestates.com) — A judge has dismissed a defamation lawsuit by congressional candidate Jonathan De Barros, stemming from comments about his 1996 fatal shooting of a young man outside a Waterbury recreation center. The ruling, which protects political speech about his record, also mentions a former Waterbury mayoral nominee and ex‑Waterbury police officer among those he sued.
• Looney: Private Equity Has No Place in Public Safety (ct.gov) — State lawmakers are highlighting how private equity ownership nearly ruined a Waterbury hospital and two others, prompting new Connecticut laws to keep investment firms from controlling hospitals and nursing homes. The statement links those past problems to rising costs and delays for fire trucks, and urges towns to work together so local needs, not distant investors, drive public safety decisions.
