A Week In Review: September 22 - September 28

The Waterford High School Girls' Swim Team had two meets this week, winning them both. This undefeated week improves their overall record to 4-1.

The first meet of the week was held on Tuesday at Avery Point. The team faced off against a massive Ledyard team, including 40 swimmers, as opposed to Waterfords 16. Meika Gathy led the charge by coming in first in the 100 backstroke and the 500 freestyle. However, Gathy decides, "My 100 backstroke was my best performance."

Meika's performance was followed up by Catherine Ward and Grace Martino finishing in second and third. Ward on the sweep, "Everyone swam really well. We knew we needed to pull through, and we did."
Waterford went on to win the match 99-77.

Their next meet was held on Friday vs. the Windham/Lyman Memorial Coop. Caitlin Henderson swam on the winning 200 medley relay. Henderson explains, "We had a strong lead off from Asia Langley, which moved the relay along."

Kelly Cheng won the 100 butterfly against Windham. On her first varsity win for this specific race, she accommodates, "I achieved something I never thought I could do."

Coach Brett Arnold reflects on the week, "Even though we are a smaller team, we have a group of competitive swimmers. The girls are doing everything right, and hopefully it will pay off for the championships next month."
