Volunteers are the core of our Foundation. Our volunteers are the ones who make our TBBCF Walk Across SECT the unique experience that it is. If you are not able to walk a full, half or quarter marathon, won't you consider volunteering on October 5? Your time during that day will enhance the experience of our walkers.
There are many choices for volunteers. The following teams still need volunteers:
Pit Stops - This is an opportunity for either a business or a group of friends (usually about four people per pit stop) to provide our walkers with hydration, fruit, granola bars and motivation to continue their walk.
Opening/Closing Ceremonies - What would a walk be without staging, tents, tables, chairs, trash cans, setting up and serving food at lunch and closing ceremonies? Well, we wouldn't have a walk. We always need volunteers to help set up and take down and move materials during the day. Would you consider helping on October 5 for this great team? Some heavy lifting may be involved.
Massage - Our walkers look forward to their massage at the end of their 26.2, 13.1 or 6.55 miles....they need their massage. If you are a licensed massage therapist, we sure could use your volunteer services on October 5. Please consider the relief you can provide our walkers.
Medical - Our medical personnel provide their expertise at all pit stops (about every 3 miles), at lunch and closing ceremonies. They are there to care for you to ensure you can finish your walk. If you are a nurse, EMT, or doctor, your volunteer services are certainly welcome.
Traffic and Safety - This is the team that ensures your safety along the route. Volunteers are placed along the route with their safety vests and flags to ensure your crossing at intersections and around sharp curves along the route are done safely. They are also there to cheer you on and motivate you.
Spirit Team - This is another critical team that motivates walkers along the last six miles of their route....usually the hardest and loneliest part of their walk. Our spirit team is made up of three or four groups of people strategically placed along the last six miles of the route cheering walkers with music, tambourines, megaphones, and clappers letting them know what a great job they're doing and how much we appreciate their support. How about gathering a group of friends, neighbors, families (we love the children cheering) and contact our Walk Director, Ellen Swercewski at 860.886.0868. This is one team where you DO NOT need to register on the website.
If you are interested in volunteering for any of the above teams (except Spirit Team), please visit our website at www.tbbcf.org and click "Register as a Volunteer".
