Weather forecast:
• Flesh-eating bacteria case reported in Connecticut (wfsb.com) — A recent Connecticut case of Vibrio vulnificus, a rare but potentially flesh-eating bacteria linked to warmer coastal waters, has state health officials urging caution for swimmers and shellfish lovers. With Long Island Sound in mind, Waterford resident Gary Anhalt says the news makes him think twice about summer beach days, as experts advise avoiding swimming with open cuts and being careful with raw seafood.
• The Electricity Future for New England: Uncertainty and High Prices (energycentral.com) — New England’s electricity future directly affects Waterford because Millstone, located in town, is now one of only two remaining nuclear plants powering the region. The piece explains why high prices, winter reliability concerns, limited gas pipelines, and slow renewable growth leave the grid vulnerable, while officials cautiously explore new nuclear technologies without firm commitments.
