📰 News we're reading

1. 750 apartments, homes proposed at former CT airport site caught up in FBI probe (thehour.com) — A court-appointed trustee is pitching up to 750 apartments and homes on the former Waterford Airport site off Waterford Parkway South, potentially reshaping housing near I-95 and Crystal Mall. The concept requires a zoning change from Waterford’s Planning & Zoning Commission and would mix multifamily units, townhouses, single-family homes, commercial space, and preserved wetlands on nearly 190 acres.

2. Meet the CT Humane Society's Pet of the Week: Rocky Community Access (iheart.com) — Animal lovers in Waterford should know the Connecticut Humane Society, which has a local facility, is spotlighting Rocky, an eight-year-old longhair cat seeking a calm, dog-free home. While he’s currently available in Newington, CHS locations in Newington, Waterford, and Wilton also provide reduced-fee veterinary services funded entirely by donors, giving local residents options for both adoption and affordable pet care.

3. O'Neill Center announces summer season (theday.com) — Waterford’s Eugene O’Neill Theater Center has unveiled a full slate of summer conferences, with public performances and staged readings running from mid-June through mid-July. From puppetry and new plays to musical theater and cabaret, local audiences can see nationally recognized artists developing brand-new work right in town, with many events open to the public on specific evenings.

4. CT will face higher power needs and one source is called ‘transformational.' Not everyone agrees. (courant.com) — Connecticut officials are weighing new small nuclear reactors while Millstone in Waterford continues supplying a large share of New England’s electricity. State energy leaders say rising demand from homes and data centers could create power shortfalls by the mid‑2030s and are holding public workshops to explain modern nuclear options, costs, and safety concerns before any town volunteers to host a future plant.
