Boston's Tall Ships Are Calling: Waterford Seniors Invited on Sail250 Day Trip

Waterford seniors can join a day trip to Sail250 Boston featuring tall ships, a harbor cruise and Italian lunch.

WATERFORD, CT — One of the nation's biggest celebrations of America's 250th anniversary is heading to Boston Harbor, and local seniors have a chance to experience it from the water.

Waterford Senior Services, the East Lyme Senior Center and the Lymes' Senior Center are partnering on a day trip Wednesday, July 15, to Sail Boston 2026, where a fleet of international tall ships will gather as part of Sail250, the maritime celebration of the nation's semiquincentennial.

The excursion will include a family-style Italian lunch at Maggiano's Little Italy in Boston.

After lunch, participants will board the Lexington, a two-level Charles Riverboat paddle wheeler departing from Rowe's Wharf for a narrated cruise through Boston Harbor. The cruise is expected to bring passengers close to the visiting tall ships, offering views of sailing vessels from around the world gathered for the historic event.

Motorcoach departures are scheduled for 8:30 a.m. from the Lymes' Senior Center in Old Lyme, 8:45 a.m. from the East Lyme Senior Center and 9 a.m. from the Oswegatchie Firehouse in Waterford. Return times are estimated at 8:15 p.m., 8 p.m. and 7:45 p.m., respectively.

The cost is $189 per person, based on 35 to 50 passengers. Reservations are available through Waterford Senior Services at 860-444-5839, the East Lyme Senior Center at 860-739-5859, or the Lymes' Senior Center at 860-434-1605, ext. 240.

With majestic ships, waterfront views, a narrated harbor cruise and an Italian lunch, organizers say the excursion offers local seniors an opportunity to be part of one of the signature events commemorating America's 250th anniversary.
