• $50M Lawsuit Claims Waterford Cops' Excessive Force Left Norwich Teen Paralyzed (patch.com) — Waterford residents are learning about a sweeping federal civil rights lawsuit accusing town police officers and the municipality of using excessive force on a 19-year-old Norwich man during a 2024 encounter on Hartford Turnpike in Waterford. The suit alleges officers escalated the situation, mishandled medical care, and left the autistic and intellectually disabled teen permanently paralyzed, seeking at least $50 million in damages and long-term support for his care.
• Waterford Selectmen Approve $200K Water Reserve, Parks Purchases And DOT Agreement (patch.com) — Waterford residents now have a clearer picture of how town leaders are planning for infrastructure and parks, with selectmen approving a $200,000 emergency water system reserve and authorizing a new parks supply contract. The board also split over declaring a 2016 Toro mower surplus, backed a DOT rights-of-way agreement, and noted anonymous correspondence about Flock Safety cameras.
• Man arrested in connection with fatal Montville overdose, police say (ctpost.com) — Waterford police helped confirm evidence in a Montville investigation that led to the arrest of a 33-year-old man accused of supplying drugs in a January overdose death of a 23-year-old in Uncasville. Working with state forensic experts, the medical examiner, and Stonington police, investigators tied the suspect to the narcotics and took him into custody Wednesday at Norwich Superior Court.
