WATERFORD, CT — Lee Elci's campaign for Connecticut's 20th State Senate District said it has submitted an application for grant funding through the state's Citizens' Election Program.
The campaign of the conservative talk show host said it raised the amount required to qualify for state campaign funding within 36 hours of filing Elci's candidacy. It also said it collected enough qualifying contributions and signatures within five days of filing, with additional signatures beyond the required amount.
The campaign said it submitted the grant application Wednesday, Aug. 19.
"This incredible achievement belongs to every person who stepped forward and invested in our campaign," Elci said in the release. "Whether someone contributed $5 or the maximum allowable amount, each donation and signature sent the same powerful message: people are ready for a strong, independent voice that will listen to them and fight for their communities."
Connecticut's Citizens' Election Program requires participating candidates to raise a specified amount and demonstrate grassroots support before becoming eligible for public campaign financing, according to the release.
"Our supporters didn't simply help us meet a fundraising goal," Elci said. "They launched a people-powered campaign focused on public safety, affordability, government accountability and restoring common sense in Hartford. I am humbled by their confidence and ready to work every day to earn the trust of voters across the 20th District."
The campaign said it will expand voter contact, community outreach and organizing in Bozrah, East Lyme, New London, Old Lyme, Salem and Waterford, as well as parts of Montville and Old Saybrook that are in the 20th State Senate District.
The longtime Connecticut radio personality is hoping to unseat Democratic incumbent Sen. Martha Marx, who began her second term in January 2025.
