WATERFORD, CT — Firefighters doused a kitchen fire on Rope Ferry Road Thursday afternoon.
Director of Fire Service Christopher M. Haley said firefighters responded to 99 Rope Ferry Rd. around 12:14 p.m., and they arrived within a minute of being dispatched.
Firefighters encountered a fire in the kitchen of the two-story, wood-frame apartment house and extinguished the blaze, he said.
A water supply line was established, which caused the temporary closure of Route 156.
Police at 12:20 p.m. issued an alert on Facebook about a section of Rope Ferry Road, between Avery Lane and Gallup Lane, being closed due to the firefighting efforts. Around 2 p.m., police said the roadway had reopened. Emergency crews have since cleared the scene.
Fire damage was limited to the room of origin, with smoke damage throughout the unit, according to Haley. No injuries were reported, though one female resident has been displaced due to the damage, he said.
