A Home Buyer's Checklist

This outline will help anyone who is buying a new home, but I do want to point out that some buyer’s may have more steps than this outline shows. There are many different factors that come into play when buying a new home. So, use this as merely a guideline to help you prepare.

1.       Find a Realtor to work with

2.       Go and talk to mortgage lenders and get pre-approved for a loan

3.       Figure out what your wants/needs are in your new home

4.       Search, then go and view properties that match what you are looking for with your Realtor

5.       Make and present an offer on the home of your choice

6.       If needed, make negotiations/counter-offers

7.       If buyer and seller can come to terms, the offer gets accepted and goes under contract

8.       Apply for the loan with mortgage lender

9.       Schedule inspections for the home

10.   Make requests based on inspections if needed

11. Find a real estate attorney

12.   Get homeowners insurance

13.   Schedule the closing

14.   Do a final walk-through of the house

15.   Go to closing and sign all necessary documents

16.   Get the keys

17.   Become a home owner!
