The first question I would ask would be in the form of two words, why not? Why is it not possible for a mountain lion to be roaming and living amongst us, right here in Southeastern Connecticut? DEP has been quoted in several articles saying "it is not possible" and that people are confusing these cats with Bob Cats. Though let us put this to rest by the confirmation of the scat test performed in Greenwich CT, was that of a Mountain Lion. With that mentioned I write my short blog: Fact one: Bobcats are shy and reclusive. Mountain Lions are not. Bobcats particularly won't eat our pets, Mountain Lions will. Mountain Lions are a sure bet around here because they love the taste of Venison and we have plenty of that on our backyard plates in most wooded areas of Southeastern CT. Fact two: Mountain Lions though nocturnal, for the most part, will come out during the day if that is their preys' routine and once again, our Bambi's are spotted frolicking during backyard outings and highway driving, hence, Mountain Lion shall follow in order to obtain a tasty meal. I have not seen a Mountain Lion personally though, I am not going to discredit anyone who claims that they have. I also believe there is someone out there who is preparing their night vision camera equipment in order to stake their claim that they are not telling cat tales. Bottom line for most people I would think is that if you see a cat tail that is unlike that of a bobcat, or your own domestic cat, it's a good idea to report it and leave the situation, unless by chance you are quick with a cell phone camera, (if you happen to own one). I would rather see one from a gainful distance, though. Fact three: their speeds are as fast as 40MPH. I should go to the track and time my own; just in case. As always, use common sense and be safe and no, Meow Mix will not lure one to your backdoor, as a friend of mine jokingly posed this idea. Laughing Out Loud.
