Poser, my life in twenty-three yoga poses by Claire Dederer

Book Talk is a place to share opinions about books. I hope people will share book titles that they enjoyed reading and opinions on some of the reviews. Thanks and happy reading!

"Poser" by Claire Dederer is an interesting memoir about self discovery through yoga.  It's not, however, really about yoga at all.  I picked up this book because I am an occasional yoga participant and thought I could learn more about perfecting certain poses.  This book is actually about yoga, and life, not being perfect and we should learn more about simply living in the moment and accepting things how they are.

Through self-deprecating humor Dederer shares her insights on dealing with her parent's divorce, sort of, having children, careers, depression (of a spouse), and friendships. She manages to incorporate Van Morrison, The Gita and Kierkegaard without sounding, well, annoying.  This books travels through some very painful moments in her life but with the help of a little crow, triangle and downward dog we can be more real and less pefect.
