Thanksgiving: Time for Traditions

Thanksgiving week always marked the start of the Holidays.

I am a sentimental guy.

I grew up in a very happy household with two working, middle class parents and a younger sister. Thanksgiving week always marked the start of the Holidays. It was an eight-week festivity, at least in my head. We had the shortened school/work week. It was a time for family to gather together, typically at grandma's house. We watched football and "Christmas Vacation". And everyone has a cousin Eddie.

We always had great food! The food! I smell it now. The time for me represented happiness and being thankful. I look back now and feel so lucky. Thanksgiving weekend also, always marked the weekend to get the Christmas tree. Of course the perfect round and tall tree. It would be marked by an occasional argument but followed by cookies and hot chocolate. But overall the tree signified our family and unity.

So, Thursday marks yet another year of tradition. We will start with the local high school game. Travel to several houses, eat some great food, watch the Lions and the Pack, enjoy my family and our relatives, then off in search of Griswold's family tree. I am passing the torch to the next generation.

Please tell me about your family traditions and what you love about Thanksgiving.
