Across the State of Connecticut, CT Open House Day is being celebrated on June 13 and the Waterford Historical Society is joining in with its Second Saturday free event! 
Come walk through the Waterford Historical Society's historical properties located on and around Jordan Park Green and see what life was like when Waterford boasted 100+ dairy farms, bustling granite quarries, flourishing shipbuilding and fishing industries and clamoring blacksmith shops that forged items for every need.   
Enter the 1840s Beebe-Phillips House; the 1740s Jordan District Schoolhouse; the Jordan Park House - Waterford's first public library building; Stacy Barn filled with antique farming equipment and two cider presses; and see the blacksmiths in action at the bustling Ralph Madara Blacksmith Shop.
Free and family friendly. Donations are always appreciated.

Why are barns always painted red? Learn the answer to this and hear many more anecdotes and recollections of "life on the farm" during the "We, the farmers" presentation sponsored by the Waterford Historical Society, taking place at the Waterford Public Library downstairs meeting room. Ray Dimmock, author of "Farm Seasons," a book about growing up on a small dairy farm in Waterford started in 1872 by his father and uncle, will be joined by Daneen LoPrinze Roth, who grew up on a farm between the Dimmock farm and the Harkness estate Eolia, now a state park.
Learn what life was like back then for farming families and friends, during farming and during their non-farm hours. What crops were raised? What tools were used? What chores and games did children participate in? Daneen and Ray will delight attendees with their stories.&nbsp;
Light refreshments and social time begin at 6:30; talk begins at 7 p.m. with a slide show of farm scenes. The "Farm Seasons" book and other Society publications will be available for purchase.
The event is free and open to the public. Donations to the Waterford Historical Society are always welcome and appreciated.

The Waterford Historical Society will hold its Annual Meeting for Members at 2:30 p.m. at the Jordan Park House on Jordan Park Green, Rope Ferry Road. Officers will be elected and committee chairs selected. Annual reports from committees will be shared. Members are encouraged to attend and the public is welcome.&nbsp;

Deans Mill Farm 

Built in the mid-1700s as a functioning livestock farm, Deans Mill Farm has gone through an evolution in recent decades. A full renovation of the historic buildings and rejuvenation of the surrounding 70+ acres has made the property into the incredible venue it is today. Deans Mill Farm now operates primarily as a private event space and five-room bed and breakfast tucked down a private road in Stonington, Connecticut. It shares its property with Dragonfly Equestrian Center and is home to dozens of horses. On the property lies meadows, hiking trails, beautiful fields and Dragonfly Disc Golf.
