
Event Details
On Saturday, October 17th from 10 am to 3 pm, Samuel Smith Farmstead and East Lyme Agribusiness will host their “End of Harvest”. This event for Children and Adults is free, and will be held at the Farmstead located at 82 Plants Dam Road in East Lyme, Connecticut.
There will be Live Farm Animals and Kids can participate in Cider and Applesauce Making. New this year, we will have tables set up for children to “paint pumpkins” with paint markers and take their decorated Sugar Pumpkins home with them.
Irish blacksmith Derek Collins will exhibit traditional blacksmithing techniques on his forge and anvil, and share insight into maintaining the history of the craft and its use here in New England.
Live Music will be provided by Five Bean Row, and Niantic Bay Shellfish Farm will offer Oysters with TJ.
Local En Plein Painters will return to End of Harvest and capture happenings of the day on canvas. Prior paintings have included Tractors, Landscape scenes of the Farmstead property, Farm Animals and more.
A “Great Pumpkin Contest” will be held the day of the event to guess the weight of a Giant Pumpkin grown this season on the Farmstead property. The winner will have the opportunity to take the Great Pumpkin home.
Courtney will be demonstrating Hearth Cooking in the Historic John Johnson House Fireplace.
There will be demonstrations with Historic Farm Tools on the Farmstead property and Tours of the Historic John Johnson House will also be available during End of Harvest.
This event is free and open to the Public. Donations are greatly appreciated with all proceeds going to fund needed repairs to the historic House and Barn at Samuel Smith Farmstead.
