Carolyn & Co. Brings Tea to the Hempsted Houses

Events on July 25 & 26 benefit New London Main Street and preservation of Hempsted site.

Carolyn Johnson, owner of the Carolyn & Co. Tea Room in New London for many years, will be reviving the tea tradition at the Hempsted Houses on July 25 and 26.

The stone Hempsted house at the corner of Jay and Hempstead was a tea room in the 1920s and ‘30s.

Sandwiches, scones and desserts for the three-course tea will be made specially by Johnson, and she will personally choose the teas to be served. Her popular tea room, located first on Ocean Avenue and then on State Street, won a loyal following for its high quality food and beverages, classic furnishings and pleasant atmosphere.

The teas are at 2 p.m. each day. Space is limited and reservations are required. Email your preferred date to hempsted@ctlandmarks.org or call 860-443-7949 by July 20. The cost is $30/person.

All proceeds will benefit New London Main Street (where Johnson is on the board) and preservation of The Hempsted Houses. The historic site is at 11 Hempstead St. in New London.
