Cops: 'Impaired' Wrong-Way Driver Seen In Dash Cam

Waterford Police share frightening dash-camera photo of a wrong-way driver in Quaker Hill to illustrate the dangers of 'impaired' driving.

WATERFORD, CT — Using a frightening video screen-grab of a wrong-way crash alleged drunk driver, Waterford Police are sending a powerful message about "impaired driving." Police said the incident could have "easily could have resulted in death."

In a photograph capture of dash-cam video from a Waterford police officer's patrol car from Sunday night, a driver traveling north in a southbound lane on Route 32 in the Quaker Hill section of the town, the cop approaches the wrong-way driver with lights and siren activated.

Police wrote on Facebook that the video demonstrates the danger when a person drives under the influence.

Police said the video was captured Sunday night at around 11 p.m. In it, a driver is seen driving north in a southbound lane.

Waterford Police "Officer Blanchette approaches the car as safe as he could with lights and sirens activated in order to prevent a horrible crash as cars on that road travel at high rates of speed."

Police said the driver was arrested and charged with operating under the influence "after this stop with a blood alcohol content of .18." The legal limit in Connecticut is .08.

"So here is our public service announcement ...just call an Uber, Lyft, taxi or friend. Not only do you face arrest, fines, suspended licenses and embarrassment but this easily could have resulted in death."
