Coyote Sightings, Missing Pets Reported in Waterford Over the Weekend
Waterford's animal control officer is urging pet owners to be vigilant.
Have you seen coyotes around Waterford recently? Waterford-East Lyme Animal Control Officer Robert Yuchniuk said that over the Sept. 12 weekend, he received:
- Six calls about missing cats
- Two calls about missing small dogs
- Two calls about coyote sightings
“Please keep your cats inside and watch your dogs when you take them outside,” Yuchniuk posted on Facebook. “There are many predators outside that will eat your pets! Coyotes, foxes, bobcats, fisher cats are all prevalent in southeastern Connecticut.”
In July of this year, a coyote fatally attacked a small dog in Waterford, prompting the animal control officer to remind pet owners that their cats and dogs are part of the food chain and precautions must be taken to protect pets.
