Five Things To Know For Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011

1. Today should be sunny, with a high around 62, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight should stay clear, and drop down to 40, according to the service.
2. The Representative Town Meeting unanimously voted to accept Cottage Lane Monday night.
Cottage Lane was built by a developer three years ago, First Selectman Dan Steward said. Because of tax reasons, it was not accepted by the town until now, Steward said.

Before, residents there had to take their garbage cans to the end of the road to have it picked up, and the town didn’t plow it, Steward said. Now, the town will plow the street and pick up the garbage cans at the end of people's driveways, he said.
3. Speaking of elections, the deadline to register to vote is Oct. 25 by mail or in person by Nov. 1 to be registered for the Nov. 8 elections. The registrar of voters’ office is open weekdays from 9:30 a.m., to 11 a.m. Also, the office will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22.

4. Today, at 9:30 a.m., Superintendent Jerome Belair, Assistant Superintendent Craig Powers and First Selectman Dan Steward will each read to students at one of the three elementary schools. The three come together at 2:30 p.m., to read to students at the . The event is called “Read for the Record.”

And today is Elizabeth Shue’s 48th birthday. When the last time anybody has seen Shue? At least eight years? I guess it proves that in Hollywood, careers for women end at 40.
