The Dance Extension of Waterford Names 2016 Dancer of the Year

The Dance Extension has selected Kiana Foster-Mauro of Groton as the 2016 Dancer of the Year.

The faculty of the Dance Extension has selected Kiana Foster-Mauro of Groton to receive the 2016 Dancer of the Year Award. Miss Foster-Mauro will receive a full scholarship to the Dance Masters Weekend at Wesleyan University in March. The award is sponsored by Maggie & Nancy Dennis, directors of The Dance Extension.


Miss Foster-Mauro has been studying dance for 15 years at The Dance Extension in New London & Waterford where she presently attends ballet, pointe, tap, modern & jazz classes. She has been a class assistant in the studio’s Young Movers program for six years working with preschool to grade school students. Miss Foster-Mauro has performed for six seasons with the Community Dance Ensemble (CDE), a non-profit dance company under the direction of Maggie Dennis. The CDE gives concerts at nursing homes, senior centers, and benefits throughout New England.

Miss Foster-Mauro has expanded her dance education by attending the Beantown Tapfest, the Tremaine Dance Convention, the Legacy Workshop, and the Radio City Rockette Experience in New York City. She has attended numerous classes at the Broadway Dance Center as well as workshops with artists from the casts of the Broadway musicals Billy Elliot, Wicked and Newsies.

Miss Foster-Mauro is in her senior year at Fitch Senior High School. She is the daughter of Jennifer Mauro of Groton.
