Vehicle Hits Pole, Knocks Down Traffic Lights In Waterford: PD

Police said the vehicle collided with a utility pole, causing the pole to break and utility lines and traffic lights to fall onto the road.

WATERFORD, CT — Police said one person was taken to a hospital after a vehicle crashed into a utility pole Sunday night in Waterford. According to a news release, police responded to reports of a motor vehicle crash on Route 85 at the intersection of Douglas Lane at approximately 9:22 p.m.

Police said responding officers found a single vehicle had collided with a utility pole, causing the pole to break and the utility lines and traffic lights to fall onto the roadway.

Police said the vehicle came to rest on the driver’s side after colliding with the pole. The driver, who was the only person in the car, was transported to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The roadway was closed while utility crews secured the power lines but has since been reopened.

According to police, utility crews will remain in the area throughout the morning commute. Drivers are asked to use caution as the traffic lights at the intersection of Douglas Lane and Route 85 will not be functioning, police said.

Police said the Waterford Police Department Accident Investigation Team responded to document the scene, and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the Waterford Police Department at (860)-442-9451.
