On Thursday morning December 17, 2020, the Town of Waterford was notified that Governor Lamont had issued a new Executive Order that will extend the due date for all municipal tax bills that become due on January 1, 2021. This includes the second installment of real estate taxes, supplemental motor vehicle tax bills and sewer tax bills. The extension means that tax bills will be PAYABLE WITHOUT INTEREST THROUGH APRIL 1, 2021.

This notification unfortunately came AFTER all supplemental motor vehicle tax bills were printed and the real estate bills were sent to residents last July 2020, so we had no way to change anything.

Please know, according to the Governor’s Order, payments that are postmarked/received after April 1, 2021 will accrue interest back to January 1, 2021 (the due date of the tax); that’s four months of interest! So please, pay your taxes on time if you can, pay your taxes by April 1st if you need the extra time, however, please remember, the Town has no choice but to apply interest after April 1, 2021.

Thank you for your continued understanding! If you have any questions, please call Tax Collector, Alan Wilensky at 860-444-5815.
