Foodways historian Leslie Evans will lead class on herbs
Hands-on program at the Hempsted Houses is Saturday, August 8.

Participants in a unique hands-on class at the Hempsted Houses on August 8 will learn how to grow herbs, make an herb butter and a bottle of infused vinegar to take home, and create their own sachets.
They’ll end the afternoon will end with a tea party where they can sample delicious herbal teas and homemade treats.
The class, led by foodways historian Leslie Evans of Groton, will use the historic herb garden and kitchen of the 1759 Nathaniel Hempsted House. Participants will learn about the importance of herbs in an 18th century household for both food and medicine, and how you can still use them in your own home today.

The class runs from 2-4 at the Hempsted Houses, located at 11 Hempstead St. in New London.
