Former Waterford Healthcare Employee Turns Down Plea Deal

The former employee is accused of embezzling money from the company.

WATERFORD, CT- A former employee of CareCo Shoreline charged with embezzling money from the company turned down a plea deal offer on Wednesday, as reported by The Day.

Tammy Cholewa, 44, rejected an offer to plead guilty in exchange for five years of probation after a one-year prison sentence, The Day reported. She is accused of embezzling $21,864 from the company through unauthorized checks for small amounts of money made out to “cash” or herself.

After Cholewa was fired, a forensic audit revealed she had reportedly stolen 77 checks and had sometimes asked employees to cash checks, The Day reported. She could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted during a trial likely to take place in the fall.
