Fugitive Wanted On Gun Charges Arrested In Waterford: State Police

A man wanted on multiple gun charges was arrested Monday and held on a combined $5 million bond, according to state police.

WATERFORD, CT — A fugitive from justice was arrested on multiple charges and held on a combined $5 million bond, according to a statement from state police. John Dahl, 65, of Abbotsford, WI was charged with fugitive from justice and faces several additional gun charges in New York.

The U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force requested State Police Troop E to assist in apprehending Dahl on Monday at 2 p.m. Dahl had an active, extraditable felony warrant held by the New York City Police Department on a charge of first-degree criminal sale of a firearm.

Marshals and NYPD detectives advised Troop E that Dahl was driving a tractor trailer on I-95 in East Lyme and requested assistance for a motor vehicle stop. Troop E stopped the tractor trailer near Exit 2 on I-395 in Waterford and took Dahl into custody without incident.

Troopers found a semi-automatic pistol, two high-capacity magazines, and approximately $70,000 in cash in Dahl's tractor trailer, according to the statement.

Dahl will face charges in New York for carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, and two counts of possession of a high-capacity magazine.

He was scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on Tuesday.
