Fundraiser Set for Waterford Family Displaced by Fire

The family will be living away from home for a year while their house is repaired after an August 2 fire that took the lives of their pets.

Amanda Gates-Lamothe wanted to do something to help after a Waterford family lost their pets in a fire that also damaged their home. She is hosting a fundraiser for the family and shared the following info with Patch:

“This past weekend (8/2/14) a local Waterford family, the Menders, went out to enjoy their evening. When they arrived back home they found part of their house had been smoldering from a fire.

This fire has charred and destroyed their living room, entryway, and subsequently every room in the home is damaged due to the black soot throughout the entire house. Furniture, walls, cabinets, bedding, etc. — it all needs to be replaced.

Thankfully their family was not injured, however, sadly, their beloved dogs and other pets were victims of this fire. The Menders family will be displaced for possibly up to one year while the damage is repaired, which includes having to have furniture, flooring, walls, some siding, a few windows and belongings all replaced. (The house will be gutted and repaired.)

Let’s pull together to help this Waterford family! Kalie is in college now as an honor student at SCSU but she and her brother Jayson are part of the Waterford High School Drama family, and their little brother Sam is a skilled soccer, basketball and lacrosse player with our Waterford Youth rec leagues.
