Laughter, Mayhem, and Mishaps On Stage at Waterford High

Waterford, Conn. WATERFORDrama, the drama club at Waterford High School, proudly presents its 48th production….The Drowsy Chaperone. The show will take the stage May 4-6 at 7:30pm in the Waterford High School Auditorium.

The Drowsy Chaperone, a parody of the musical comedies of the 1920’s, opened on Broadway is 2006 and won five Tony Awards. The show is a hilarious, modern musical with an old-time feel. A character named simply Man in Chair starts off talking to the audience about theatre and about how, when he feels “blue,” he likes to listen to his records from old Broadway shows. The next thing you know a fictitious musical from 1928 comes to life right in his apartment.

“This show pays tribute to a beautiful time in both history and show business unlike any other show. It is a musical, but in that it is a love letter to Broadway, “explains Matt McKinzie who plays Man in Chair. “It speaks to the wonderment and awe all of us have for the ritzy, glamorous days of the past, full of colorful performances and jazzy show tunes through one man's endearing, nostalgic love of theatre.”

Kayla Mathiowetz, a senior who plays Janet Van de Graaff adds, “When you come see The Drowsy Chaperone, you can expect to laugh. A lot. Even after hearing the jokes multiple times during rehearsal, I never fail to laugh. There's never a dull moment in the show.”

The show features Waterford High School students Matt McKinzie, Kayla Mathiowetz, Liz Dusza, Natalie Frascarelli, Nathaniel Rowe, Nate Hillyer, Isabel Umland, Nali Colon, Jonathan Dryden-Jaffe, Sam Amodeo, Jake Niedojadlo, Isabel Cavalieri, Angela Su, Dominic Bruno, Tim McCabe, Nina Pezzello, Rachel Dondero, Kaitlyn Mangelinkx, Andre Mastrandrea, Michael Macesker, Sophia Amodeo, Chloe Wilson, Chelsey Barker, Elizabeth Hawkins, Emily Leitkowski, Phoenix Sturgill, and Camren Wilkinson.
