This is the first time an event like this will be done in the New London area. “Applying for citizenship can be a confusing and expensive process. This is a rare opportunity for local immigrants to complete this important step with the assistance of trained volunteers.” said IASC director, Mike Doyle. There are many benefits of becoming a U.S. citizen, including easier travel, derivative citizenship for children, access to certain job opportunities and grants, and the right to vote, as well as officially being a full and equal member of this nation.
IASC’s partner, the MIRA Coalition, has many years of experience providing these clinics. “If you have a green card, can communicate in basic English, and meet a few other requirements, we can have your application completed, sealed and ready for mailing that day. It’s a great opportunity,” Eli Pimentel, Citizenship Program Manager at the MIRA Coalition, explained.
The doors will open at 10 A.M. The entire application takes about 2 hours to complete, and we ask attendees to arrive between 10-12 to begin the process. To register for the clinic in advance, please call the MIRA citizenship hotline: 617-500-5998.
